Looking to beam yourself into a The Normal show in 1978? The music of coldwave wunderkind Alan Harman may scratch that itch. Noting to have “found meaning” in synthesizers after coming of age in an unnamed small town “known solely for having high levels of radiation in its soil,” Harman’s sound evokes an enchanting chill through pensive, eerie compositions and his unflinching, deadpan vocals.

Get lost in the mirage of noise that is Container. Since 2009, the American-born, now UK-based industrial musings of Ren Schofield have rocked the heart rates of basement shows to electronic festivals, and everything in-between. The boundless fuzz of Container’s rhythms speaks to lovers of techno, punk and noise, making his Project Nowhere debut a universal equalizer for the varied musical tastes of all festival-goers.

Legends of Detroit rock n’ roll, Death’s energy has not budged since the band’s founding in 1974. Originally composed of brothers David, Dannis and Bobby Hackney, Death’s proto-punk jams exude an unfettered nerve sure to energize politically-inclined listeners of all stripes. Despite their explosive sound, Death faded into obscurity until 2008, when Drag City Records released the trio’s master tapes from the 1970s. After the passing of original guitarist David Hackney in 2001, Bobby Hackney’s sons Julian and Urian now join their father and uncle to spread the band’s noisy gospel.

The prismatic stylings of Heaven For Real—otherwise known as Halifax twins Mark and J. Scott Grundy—are deceptively charming: light enough for listeners to float away, with storytelling that charts a curious path. They describe their guitar-forward sound as “something of a palette to draw from,” with fragments of psych, electronica, and jazz stretching through each composition. Who Died & Made You The Dream?, released last year via Mint Records, displays this most precisely – an eleven-track odyssey of oddities beckoning to be unraveled.
