Fruition Collective Announce Panel Series on Colourism & White-Passing Privilege

If we know anything for certain, it's that there are always more ways that we can be learning, growing and doing better for our community. So who better to learn from than Fruition? Their upcoming panels on colourism in October are the perfect opportunity for our community and us to continue to educate ourselves on how we can be and do better.

Fruition collective is created by and for QTBIPOCs to have a space to create, learn and build freely. The collective provides tools to ensure QTBIPOCs security, survival, and safety on their identity, existence and artistry.

One way they have been doing this has been by curating a virtual summer series in collaboration with the Center of Gender Advocacy. The virtual summer series, We Thrive 2020, tackled many different topics including: self-care and community care, Ballroom Houses takeover, and now colourism, white-passing privilege within (QT)BIPOC communities and how to actively show up.

Here's the rundown of these October's workshops:

Week 1 (October 2nd - 6pm): Black panellists' panel discussion on colorism and white-passing privilege

Week 2 (around Halloween/TBA): Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous panellists discuss anti-Blackness and colorism and white-passing privilege

Week 1 will feature the perspectives and lived experiences of Black community members from diverse backgrounds. Panellists will discuss how colorism and white-passing privilege impact Black liberation organizing spaces and share from their lived experiences. Panellists will reflect on their experiences as cultural producers and community organizers across disciplines. This panel highlights queer and gender diverse perspectives across Black communities.
